Day 3: Git gud

Yesterday we started learning the Terminal and Git. I’ve used terminal before in a short course, but I was surprised by how much I had forgotten, but it also made a few old things I had learnt come back to the surface. This is proof in the saying that repetition is the mother of learning!

Git though.. okay sure, git made me a little confused. I’ve been aware of Git and GitHub for a while, but I haven’t used them. The idea of pushing, pulling, branches, merges, remotes and more like it had my head spinning. Hours have now been dedicated to learning Git and GitHub and I feel that I have a grasp on things, but I’m sure a few slip ups may occur here and there.

As we have all gone on to starting the modules with our self-guided studying, I couldn’t help but feel concerned at the speed I’m progressing. A few on the course have already started Module 2 whilst I’m still on Module 1, tackling Git in all its glory. I couldn’t help feeling that maybe I wasn’t measuring up at the moment. I realised that this is probably my brain being a little silly, but the anxieties were still there. Thankfully, meditation was scheduled right around the corner.

By the end of the day I had started Module 2 and overall I felt that I made good progress, so I ended the day on a high note, looking forward to the next. I was also happy to find that my Ruby syntax was still mostly there, though I did find myself knee deep in documentation at times. Till the next entry!
